Judge Toni S. King
Judge Toni S. King was appointed to the 14th Judicial District Court in February 2009. She received a B.A., cum laude in English, from North Carolina Central University, and a Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central School of Law in 2000.
Immediately after law school, Judge King practiced in the private law sector, as an associate with the Rogers Firm, PA. In 2004, Judge King became the managing partner with Miller, King & Clouse, PLLC, where she practiced in the Federal & District Court levels in the areas of criminal defense, immigration, real estate and personal injury.
Judge King created and founded the first human trafficking treatment court in North Carolina, the W.O.R.T.H. Court, which stands for We Overcome Recidivism Through Healing. As the presiding judge, she assists individuals of human trafficking, who find themselves in a dual capacity of victim and defendant in the eyes of the law. Judge King collaborates with community partners to provide individuals with mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, safe housing and employment skills training
Judge Toni King is a certified judge in both family law and juvenile delinquency law. She presides over family court cases involving complex issues such as child custody, equitable distribution, alimony and divorce. In addition, Judge King presides in the juvenile delinquency courts, where she seeks to administer justice by offering rehabilitation and treatment to our youth in efforts to cease recidivism.
Judge King has served the State of North Carolina, as a Commissioner on the NC State Human Relations Commission representing the 8th Congressional District, The Governor’s Crime Commission, the NC State Custody Mediation Advisory Committee, and was appointed by NC Chief Justice Newby to serve as a Commissioner on the State Dispute Resolution Board in 2021.
Judge King is active in her local community and has served on the Board of Directors with the Cumberland Boys & Girls Club, Board Member with the Cape Fear Regional Theater, Board Member with Better Health of Cumberland County, Board Member with the Cumberland Community Foundation and currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Fayetteville Arts Council and The Tulsa Initiative, Incorporated. She is an adjunct professor at Fayetteville State University in the Criminal Justice Department.
Judge King is a member of The Links Incorporated and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Judge King is a member of Simon Temple AME Zion Church in Fayetteville, NC.
